The physicians of the Institut Curie's Proton Therapy Center are oncologists-radiotherapists who use radiation to treat malignant diseases and, in some cases, benign diseases. They work in close collaboration with radiophysicists, radiological technologists, technicians and the whole healthcare team of the center. Like you, your disease is unique, which is why our personnel will do everything needed to adapt the treatment to your particular case. Your administrative contact is the medical secretary. This team is in touch with your family physician and the other specialists who are taking care of you. The collaboration is therefore multidisciplinary.
These physicians are specialized in the treatment of tumors using radiation. They decide which treatment is appropriate for you, choose the dose to be delivered, define the target, and protect the neighboring organs.
You will see them in consultation before and during the treatment, so that they can take your medical history, explain the treatment, and monitor its efficacy and safety. After the treatment, they will regularly participate in follow-up, either by seeing you in consultation or by talking to the other physicians caring for you and reading their clinical and radiological reports.
They inform your family physician and the specialists in the different aspects of your treatment. Don't hesitate to contact them if you have any problem.
The medical secretaries will welcome you to the Proton Therapy Center of the Institut Curie, organize your appointments, and manage your medical file. They take care of all administrative tasks and help you reserve your accommodation for the period of treatment.
They are here to listen to your concerns throughout treatment and, with your agreement and that of the physicians at the Institut Curie's Proton Therapy Center, will forward information about you to the various specialists caring for you.
These specialists in radiation physics applied to medical treatments choose, in collaboration with the Proton Therapy Center's radiotherapist, how best to conform the irradiation pattern to the tumor in question. They ensure the quality and reproducibility of the radiation beam and check the systems used to configure the beam.
The radiophysicists are involved on a daily basis in developments designed to improve the precision, comfort and quality of your treatment.
The radiological technologists assist you upon your arrival at the Proton Therapy Center of the Institut Curie, provide information on the various steps of your treatment, and make the immobilization device that will keep you still during irradiation.
They ensure high-precision positioning of the part of your body to be irradiated, check beam quality, and help define the amount, rate, and distribution of radiation. They are fully conversant with your medical file and monitor your progress throughout treatment.
The technicians custom-make the accessories needed for each individual treatment.
The technical department develops and maintains all the equipment and the treatment rooms. The technicians are responsible for real-time control of the proton beam.
